Frequently Asked Questions

What is the goal of karmajo.com?
Our goal is to create a global community built on “Karma.” We believe that by helping a stranger, you set a positive cycle in motion. Whether it’s through hosting a traveler, meeting for a coffee (Hangouts), or participating in our Seeker Token Pools (Rounds of Jo’s), the intent is to enrich your live by enriching the lives of others.
Is this a gambling or lottery site?
No. Gambling is based on “wagering” with the hope of personal profit. Our Seeker Token Pools (Rounds of Jo’s) are a Community Redistribution Feature. When you contribute a token, you are making a voluntary gift to the community. You are “paying it forward” to help a fellow member. The random selection is simply the fairest way to decide who the community supports today.
What is a Seeker Token?
A Seeker Token is a digital unit of “Karma” on our platform, valued at €1. It represents your willingness to support the community.
How do JO 1, JO 2, and JO 3 Pools work?

These are rounds of collection pools that activate once 1,000,000 tokens are contributed:

  • Jo 1: One person is selected to receive the full community support.
  • Jo 2: Two selections are made (50% each).
  • Jo 3: Three selections are made (50%, 30%, and 20%).

Note: Because the selection is purely random, it is mathematically possible for one person to be selected for multiple slots in Jo 2 and Jo 3!

Who picks the beneficiaries?

To keep things 100% fair and free of human bias, we use an automated Random Number Selection (RNS).

No one at Karmajo.com can influence who receives the tokens.

Do I have to pay taxes if I am selected?

Yes. Because we are a global community, tax laws vary by country. You are responsible for reporting any tokens you receive to your local tax authorities.

How do i receive my tokens?

Once you are selected as a beneficiary by any rounds of the Jo’s you will be asked to provide a bank account and we will transfer your tokens into that bank account for you.

Why do you use Nicknames?

Your privacy is our priority. We want you to feel free to be yourself without sharing your full legal identity with the whole world. While we need your real name for billing, the community only knows you by your chosen Nickname.

Is it safe to meet people or stay at their homes?

We provide the tools to connect, but we do not verify identities. Always check a user’s 4-Category Feedback (Host, Hopper, etc.) before meeting. We highly recommend meeting in a public place for your first “Hangout” and using our internal chat system to build trust first.

Who can see my photos?

You are in total control. Public users (not logged in) can never see your photos. You can choose to show your photos to “All Logged-in Members” or restrict them only to “Subscribed Members.”

What are the 4 Feedback Categories?

To keep the community safe and honest, you can leave feedback for:

  1. Personal: General character.
  2. Host: How they were as a host.
  3. Hopper: How they were as a guest.
  4. Hangouts: How they were during a meetup.
How do I find people in my city?

If you enable GPS on your phone, our “City-Match” system will automatically show you hangouts happening in your current city. We don’t track your live movement; we just help you find your local tribe!

Couch Hop

How do I ask someone to host me?

If you are traveling and need a place to stay, visit the “Find a Host” page or click on any member’s profile. Look for the Couch Icon.

  • Clicking the Couch on a user profile sends a Hosting Request to that user after you fill the form, asking if you can stay in their home and city.
How do I offer to host a traveler?

If you see someone interesting in the community and want to open your home to them, click the Envelope Icon on their profile.

  • The Envelope sends a Hosting Offer after you fill the form, letting them know you are available to be their host in your city.

Can I send multiple requests or offers at once?

To ensure quality over quantity and to respect our members’ time, with one profile (user) you can only have one active request or offer at a time. * You cannot “spam” multiple hosts. Once you send a request/offer, you must wait for a resolution or for the date to pass before sending another to a different user. This encourages genuine, focused connections.

How can I cancel a request I sent?

To cancel a request:

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click the Couch icon on your menu bar at the bottom.
  3. Click on outgoing requests.
  4. Find your request and open it.
  5. Click on Withdraw (X) Icon on the menu bar.
How can I cancel an offer I sent?

To cancel an offer:

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click the Couch icon on your menu bar at the bottom.
  3. Click on outgoing offers.
  4. Find your offer and open it.
  5. Click on Withdraw (X) Icon on the menu bar.
How do I decline or “delete” a request/offer?

We value a low-pressure environment. If you receive a request or offer that you are not interested in or cannot fulfill:

  • Simply do not reply. There is no “Reject” button that might cause bad feelings. By not responding, the request remains inactive.

  • If you sent a request and changed your mind, you don’t need to do anything; just let it sit.

How do I leave a feedback for a hopper or a host?

Once you host or hop with an host a new related task will be created for you on your tasks tab and you can write your feedback from there.

When do these requests and offers expire?

Every request or offer has a specific date attached to it.

  • Once the requested stay date has passed, the request or offer will automatically expire and disappear from your active dashboard. This keeps your “one active at a time” slot clear for future travel or hosting.

Is my home address shared immediately?

No. Sending a Couch request or an Envelope offer only opens a private communication channel between you and the other user. You should only share your precise location or home address once you have chatted, checked their 4-Category Feedback, and feel completely comfortable.

What should I do before staying with a stranger?

Safety is our priority. Before finalizing any hosting arrangement:

  1. Read their Host/Hopper/Personal reviews.

  2. Have a video call to ensure they match their profile.

  3. Consult our [Safety First Guide] for tips on international travel and home-sharing.

hangout

What are Hangouts?

Hangouts are temporary, city-specific group chats created by users to facilitate real-world meetups. Whether you want to grab a coffee, visit a museum, or organize a “Pay It Forward” community event, Hangouts help you find your local tribe instantly.

How do I create a Hangout?

It’s simple! Once you are logged in:

Click the Hangout Icon on your menu bar.

Set your title (e.g., “Sunday Morning Beach Clean-up” or “Coffee & Tech Chat”).

Choose your Privacy Settings (Subscribed Members Only or All Logged-in Members).

Launch your Hangout!

How does the app know which city I am in?

We use two methods to ensure you only see Hangouts relevant to you:

GPS (Recommended): If you enable GPS on your mobile, we pinpoint your precise city location to show you the most immediate local hangouts.

Residence: If GPS is disabled, the system defaults to the Residence City you provided in your profile.

Note: Hangouts are city-wide limited to keep connections local and manageable.

How long do Hangouts last?

To keep the platform dynamic and focused on “the now,” every Hangout lasts for exactly 3 hours. After 3 hours, the group chat expires and is removed from the active list. This ensures that only active, real-time opportunities are displayed.

Who can join my Hangout?

As the creator, you have total control over the “vibe” of your group:

Membership Tier: You can restrict your Hangout to Subscribed Members for an added layer of community vetting, or open it to All Logged-in Members.

Gatekeeping: You can choose to be the Sole Approver (only you can accept new participants) or allow Community Approval (any current member of the Hangout can accept a newcomer).

Can public users see my Hangout?

No. To protect our community, Hangouts and their associated group chats are completely invisible to public visitors. Only logged-in members within your specific city can see that a Hangout has been created.

What about safety during a Hangout?

While we facilitate the connection, somesite IKE does not moderate live Hangouts or verify identities. * Always check the 5-Category Feedback of users before meeting.

We recommend meeting in public locations within the city.

Refer to our [Safety First Guide] for more tips on meeting strangers safely.

Is there a cost to join or create a Hangout?

No. Creating and joining Hangouts is a core feature of the Karma movement. However, creators may sometimes limit their Hangouts to Subscribed Members to ensure they are meeting with users who have committed to the platform’s mission.

seeker tokens

If I am selected as a beneficiary, is the redistribution considered a “prize” or “winnings”?

From the perspective of our community, this is a “Karma Gift”—a redistribution of support from a million fellow human beings. However, for legal and tax purposes, please understand the following:

  • Tax Classification: In most countries, funds received from a platform like ours may be classified as taxable income, a gift, or a miscellaneous gain. Because we are a global community, the specific tax rate and reporting rules depend entirely on the laws of your country of residence.

  • Your Responsibility: Karmajo.com does not withhold taxes from the redistribution. You are solely responsible for consulting with a tax professional in your region and reporting the amount to your local authorities if required.

  • Philosophical View: We view this as a life-changing moment of support. (You) Handling the local administrative side (taxes) ensures that your “Karma” remains positive and compliant with your local laws!

What are Seeker Tokens?

Seeker Tokens are the digital units of “Karma” on our platform. They represent your contribution to a global community built on mutual support. Every token is a tool used to change a life—whether it is your own or that of a fellow human being.

How do I get Seeker Tokens?

There are two ways to add Seeker Tokens to your account:

  • Included with Subscriptions: A set number of tokens are awarded to you automatically when you join or renew a subscription plan.

  • Additional Purchases: If you wish to increase your contribution to the community, you can purchase additional tokens directly.

What are the rules for purchasing tokens?

To keep the “Pay It Forward” system balanced and accessible, we offer tokens in specific bundles:

  • Purchase Bundles: You can purchase tokens in sets of 3, 6, or 9 per order.

  • Unlimited Orders: While each individual order is limited to 9 tokens, you may make unlimited purchases to build your balance as high as you wish.

  • Subscription Requirement: To purchase additional tokens, you must have an active subscription plan. This ensures that the Seeker Token ecosystem remains exclusive to our committed community members.

Do Seeker Tokens expire?

No. Your available Seeker Tokens never expire. Once they are awarded or purchased, they remain in your account until you choose to use them, regardless of how much time passes.

Can I use my tokens if my subscription ends?

Yes. While you need an active subscription to purchase new tokens, any tokens already in your balance stay with you. You can still participate in the JO 1, JO 2, and JO 3 rounds and become a beneficiary even if your subscription has expired.

Are Seeker Tokens refundable or transferable?

No. To maintain the integrity and stability of the “Pay It Forward” ecosystem, Seeker Tokens are non-refundable and non-transferable. They are tied to your unique account and your personal journey within the community.

What is the philosophy of the Seeker Tokens?

The tokens are the core of our Pay It Forward mission. When you enter a JO round, you do so with a generous spirit:

  • The Intention: You contribute 1 token knowing it may select you, or it may select another participant.

  • The Impact: Whether the automated selection chooses you or a fellow human being, your token has directly contributed to changing a life.

  • The Result: We believe that by being happy for the success of others, you keep the cycle of Karma moving. At the end of every round, a life is changed—and that is a victory for the whole community.

subscription plans

What are the available subscription plans?

By choosing a paid plan, you aren’t just buying access; you are helping us maintain a high-trust ecosystem. A community where members are willing to verify themselves through a subscription is a community where real, safe, and life-changing connections happen.

We offer three simple, value-driven plans designed to fit your journey in the Karma community. Every plan grants full access to all site features, including Seeker Token Pools (Rounds of Jos).

Plan Validity Seeker Tokens Credited
Plan A 6 Months 3 Tokens Back
Plan B 1 Year 3 Tokens Back
Plan C 2 Years 9 Tokens Back
Why is there a paid membership?

Our paid plans serve three vital purposes:

  • Community Integrity: Paid membership connects you with like-minded individuals who are truly committed to the “Pay It Forward” philosophy. It ensures that the people you meet and host are invested in the community’s success.

  • The Safety Standard: When a user subscribes, they link a valid credit or debit card with us. This acts as a powerful safety layer, as it ensures every paid member is a real person with a verified financial footprint. In a community of “Nicknames,” this added layer of accountability provides peace of mind for everyone.

  • Access to Rounds of Jos: Only subscribed members can participate in the rounds of Jos.
Do I get my tokens immediately?

Yes. As soon as your subscription is processed, your “Karma Credits” (3 or 9 tokens depending on the plan) will be added to your balance. You can use them immediately to participate in the active JO rounds.

Can I still use the site if my plan expires?

If your plan expires, you will be able to use everything on this site except accessing the rounds of Jo’s or accessing the subscribed only members. However, any Seeker Tokens already in your balance will remain yours forever. You can still participate in Jo rounds and become a beneficiary even without an active plan, as long as you have tokens left!

my profile

How do I control who can Host me or stay with me?

From your profile. You decide who can interact with your home. You can toggle your Couch (Request) and Envelope (Offer) icons to be accessible by:

  • Paid Members Only: This ensures that only users with a verified card and a commitment to the community can contact you for hosting.

  • All Logged-In Members: This opens your doors to the entire registered community.

Who can see my location and photos?

You have granular control over your most personal information. In your Privacy Settings, you can choose to show or hide the following from Free Members vs. Paid Members:

  • Your Precise Location: Choose who can see your current city or GPS-based location.

  • Profile Photo & Gallery: You can set your photos to be visible only to Subscribed Members, providing an extra layer of security.

What is visible to the public community (Logged-In Members)?

To help people find their “Karma Tribe,” certain keywords are public to all logged-in members. These are designed to spark conversation and connection:

  • Interests: Your Likes and Dislikes.

  • Travel History: Cities you have traveled to and your “Dream Destinations” (cities you want to visit).

  • Communication: Languages you speak.

  • Offers: What you offer to the community?
What does “What can you offer the community?” mean?

This is the heart of the Pay It Forward spirit. On your profile, you can list the “Gifts” you provide to fellow humans, such as:

  • A Couch: Space for a guest to sleep.

  • Food & Drink: Sharing a local meal or a coffee.

  • Time: Offering to show someone around your city or simply sharing a conversation.

  • Skills: Sharing a specific talent or piece of knowledge.

Why are some sections restricted to “Paid Members Only”?

We offer this as a Safety Feature. Many users feel more comfortable sharing their private gallery or home address (via the Envelope/Couch system) with members who have verified their identity through a subscription. You have the power to set these boundaries as you see fit.

Can I change profile settings later?

Yes. You can update your visibility and interaction settings at any time. If you are going on a “social break,” you can hide your hosting icons or gallery immediately through your Profile.
